Stacey's Story

Stacey Howard has been involved in education for 20 years holding various roles after qualifying with a merit in National Diploma in Childcare and Education.

Stacey started on her journey predominately working in Early Years receiving 'outstanding' from Ofsted for her contribution to the child care and education of the children in foundation stage.

Stacey has always had a passion for sport and being an advanced teaching assistant during the school sports partnership era Stacey was able to gain level one NGB qualifications in most sports from football to tennis and TOPs sport Outdoor Adventurous Activities.

Having always enjoyed adventurous sports herself participating in everything from abseiling, kayaking, gorge walking and rock climbing to name a few Stacey developed an ethos that there was a sport out there for everyone.

The highlight of Stacey's career came in 2014 when she was chosen by David Beckham, Darren Campbell & Jessica Ennis-Hill as Sky Sports Living for Sport Teacher of the year after being nominated by the 10 x British inline skater Champion Jenna Downing for her work with Secondary pupils at Carlton Holy Family using the SSLFS 6 keys to success not only to influence and encourage disengaged pupils but using the 6 keys ethos mental toughness, hunger to achieve, people skills, life knowledge, breaking barriers and planning for success throughout her work in education. Stacey has appeared on Sky Game Changers TV show a number of times to show case the vast activities she brings to the pupils of Carlton Holy Family High School.

As well as winning teacher of the year in 2014 Stacey was shortlisted for Teacher of the year a further 3 times along with various projects being in the top three projects at the national impact awards.

For many years Stacey supported school trips to educational outdoor centres such as Bewerley Park (Pately Bridge, Yorkshire) and East Barnby (Whitby, Yorkshire) and even now if she gets the opportunity to take students to these centre's she throws herself into the role.

After taking a role as a School Games Organiser overseeing the competition calendar for over 45 schools both primary and secondary Stacey realised that although there were over 90 competitions happening in the area non of these included opportunities for team building or outdoor adventurous activities, knowing how vital problem solving skills can be in day to day living Stacey decided to start working on the concept Outdoor Ted, KS1 & KS2 friendly outdoor education and is now in it's 5th year with 1000s of pupils having accessed the ever growing list of activities.

Always wanting to offer the best Stacey often attends courses which will allow her to expand her activities and delivery, recently completing the Therapeutic Toolkit for Outdoor Leaders course and has just signed up for the Using the outdoors for Mental Health and Wellbeing in adults.
